Central Park Quilt Finished
I finished my central park baby quilt over the weekend (previously blogged here and here) and am excited to be entering it in the Blogger's Quilt Festival! I had fun playing with the different colors in this quilt and with the different block and sashing sizes... making the blocks up semi-improvisationally definitely helped to me to see what combinations of fabrics and colors I was most drawn to as I worked, and what worked best in the end.
Actually doing the quilting is not my favorite part of the process, and I tend to like a less-heavily quilted look (although not always), so I kept the quilting on this pretty simple and light. I just echo quilted the main blocks, and then quilted one line inside each of the solid squares within the blocks - sometimes in the inner edge, sometimes in the middle and sometimes on the outer edge.
I used the same dusty lavender that I had used in the blocks as binding and backed it with the fun zoo print from this line. I was a bit concerned that since I was using a mix of pre-washed fabrics and unwashed charm squares that the different shrinkage between the different fabrics, so I washed and dried the quilt after taking these photos and luckily it really didn't seem to be a problem. If anything, the charm squares a bit less crinkly than the other fabrics, but it looks fine I think.
I am looking forward to checking out the other quilts that have been entered in the Blogger's Quilt Festival!
this makes me want to get out my stash of Central Park, but I'm working on too many other things now.
