Giveaway Day!
I've had so much fun participating in Sew Mama Sew's giveaway day in the past, both as a giver-away and as a winner, so I'm excited to participate again this time!
I'll be giving away a copy of one of my PDF sewing patterns (also for sale in my meylah shop and my etsy shop) - the winner can choose:
Either the yoga mat bag sewing pattern -
(check out how it has a zipper up the front AND a zippered pocket for your essentials... sweet!)
OR a copy of my free-motion applique messenger bag pattern
(Two fun applique designs included, and the bag has lots of handy pockets)
To enter, all you have to do is leave me a comment telling me - what kind of handmade ornaments have you made or would you like to make? (This is actually for a purpose - my coworker told me she wanted to make handmade ornaments and was looking for ideas - I had a bunch but would love to pass on yours as well! Links to tutorials are welcome).
The winner will be picked at random, and the giveaway is open to both U.S. and international entries. The giveaway will close at 5 pm pacific on Friday December 16th and I will contact the winner via email - so make sure you have an email address in your blogger profile, or include it in your comment!
Thanks and good luck!
--GIVEAWAY CLOSED!-- Thanks to all who entered! Winner's posted here.

ReplyDeleteThis very week I am going to a friends house to try ornament making with small children (sounds tricky!). I am going to bake salt dough stars and somehow work out how to get a hole in the top for thread to hang on the tree. Then the kids can decorate with paint, glitter etc. Might be a bit rustic / childish for your co-worker!
ReplyDeleteI've been meaning to (but somehow seem to have left it a bit late...) cast on for some Mochimochi snowmen: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mochimochi-snowmen
ReplyDeleteMaybe next year?
I have made a patchwork bauble back in high school. We still use it now! I like the ornament on V&Co, might have to make that too. lexilucas@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteWhen my son was little we made all the standards ~ clothespin reindeer, painted forms, every kind of pipe-cleaner and glittered mess out there. This year I'm making a gift set of Advent Calendar ornaments for my sister and her family. Now that they have their own little one (and hopefully more in the future) I'm hoping this will be a treasured tradition for them.
ReplyDeleteInspiration found via: http://iammommahearmeroar.blogspot.com/2011/11/christmas-kojo-designs.html
Hmmm...I haven't made any ornaments since 3rd grade, but I did find this tutorial that looks like a simple way to make pretty, glitter-y ornaments without the mess: http://thegreenbeanscrafterole.blogspot.com/2010/12/all-that-glittersminus-mess.html

ReplyDeleteI've been coveting your messanger bag pattern for a while now, Kate! :) I haven't done ornaments in a long time, but when I did, I would do paper ornaments -- origami cranes and Norwegian stars were my two specialties!
ReplyDeleteI made small quilted snowflakes last year accented with metalic silver thread. They seemed to be a hit. Wish I had a tutorial to share. This year, I'm just making little cardstock monogram ornaments on my Cricut.

ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the chance to win some goodies! I recently used Leanne`s tutorial for Christmas tree ornaments made from 1 inch squares. They are easy to make and really effective. Here`s the link http://shecanquilt.blogspot.com/2011/11/today-i-made-tree-ornaments-and.html
ReplyDeleteI would love to make ornaments with pictures in them - like a clear spherical ornament and slide a black and white picture with tinsel to add color!
ReplyDeleteI've done a bit of every type of handmade ornament, cross stitch, tatting, crochet, beading. My mom made a super cute reindeer head with a cork from a wine bottle!
ReplyDeleteFor my Christmas craft night this year, we did an old-fashioned ornament- you take a foam ball, then use a punch to make about 75 snowflakes or flowers out of the colors of your choice. Then you take a 5mm sequin and use a metal pin to pin through the center of the sequin and the punched shape. Do this all over the ball. My guest came up with some really pretty designs! Metallic scrapbook paper makes these extra shiny.
ReplyDeleteI'm actually attempting to make a string of pom poms (a garland, I guess?) for a swap I'm in. I'm using yarn, and I've made two of them so far. They're a little fiddly, but cute!

ReplyDeleteOooh. The messenger bag pattern looks like exactly what I've been looking for.
ReplyDeleteI've been scheming for awhile to make a bunch of bird ornaments and put them on painted branches as a general decoration (where the birds could be swapped out for more seasonal decorations when I want variety). I just finally set up a sewing room so I'm not working on the dining room table. So maybe it's time to start that project.
This year we made foot prints and hand prints of our daughters out of salt dough.
ReplyDeleteI recently came across an ornament that I'd love to recreate - it was a round "ball" style ornament and was covered in layered strips of fabric... I think it would be so fun to create an ornament like this using fabrics from projects I have made (ex: using scraps from my daughter's birthday dress to create a commemorative ornament for her). I plan to try it out using scrap fabric, a large plastic ornament, and modge podge! :)
ReplyDeleteBest,
