I didn't have much time to do sewing this past week since we were out of town for a long weekend, but last night I did sew up the quarter-circles for three more drunkard's path blocks. I decided to wait to sew them up into blocks until I have made some more of these sub-blocks, because it is fun to play around with potential block arrangements and see how they look.
I particularly wanted to test out the two block variations that I am most seriously considering for this quilt. While I had been leaning towards the option above, where the blocks alternate positive and negative space, after seeing them laid out I think I actually prefer the simpler version below.
I haven't made any progress on my Spicing Up the Kitchen placemats (which I also want to get done to share for the Bloggers' Dinner Party!), but I am hoping to start sewing those later this week. I am also planning to make a skirt or two this week to share as part of Summer of No Pants and Skirt Week... It's funny, these challenges/link-ups really do help me motivate to get to projects on my to do list.
I realized I forgot to post these quarter circle blocks that I made last week as I was refining my drunkard's path block pattern. I made them in a similar color scheme to my mug rugs, and am planning to make them into coasters at some point - I have a set of coasters that I made, but they are bright colors that look funny to me when I use them together with the mug rugs, so it will be nice to have something more matching.

Also yesterday I decided to start a Quilt Sketches Flickr Group - I had so much fun drawing up all my drunkard's path block variations, and I always enjoy seeing others' quilt sketches and ideas, so I thought it would be fun to have a place to share them! If you have any quilt sketches/drawings that you have done, feel free to add them to the pool!
I'm linking up again to WIP Wednesday over at Freshly Pieced - head over to see everyone's fun projects!
Your DP blocks are so pretty! I love the colours and the patterns are lovely. Your flikr group looks like it could be a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteoooh, I agree - the DP option 2 is lovely! I love how all that negative space aligns so nicely.

ReplyDeleteYour drunkard's path is so citrus-y and summery. Beautiful! Lately I have been on a curved-piecing marathon it seems. And the fabrics you chose are just perfect.

ReplyDeleteI stared at those two layouts forever trying to figure out what was different between the two, then when I realized it was so obvious I felt stupid! LOL, I like the bottom one better, but both are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThese blocks are really making me want to figure out drunkard's path blocks, which have long intimidated me. I like the second non-alternating layout best as well. I can't wait to see how this progresses.
ReplyDeleteThis makes me want to try a drunkard's path block. Adding this to my if I get the huevos list.
